Snow?

Yes it's true, we go some snow today. So, next time someone asks when it the first snow is...I'll say September 30th. It's a welcome change if you ask me as we've been smothered by high pressure, warm temps, and intermittent wind for he last few weeks. It finally feels like fall and the leaves are changing quickly.
Fishing has been pretty good the last couple of weeks, provided the wind hasn't been ripping. This cooler weathers should get rid of the remaining weeds on the lower madison and start breaking them up on the Missouri as well.

I was on the LM today and got some fish to eat some light colored streamers and lightning bugs. There was a blanket midge hatch this morning and BWO's mid-day. I'm talking oodles of midges as in my boat was literally covered in them both on the outside and inside. There were fish rising too, but we stayed above that and stuck with nymphing. Dry flies are for August!

The last couple of weeks have been busy and I've had the chance to fish with a lot of great people. I should update this more often, I'll try to be more better at it for the rest of the year!

The Wind Down

I can hardly believe that the season is almost over! I'm busy for about another week and then a few more trips through mid-October. The fishing has been good this year, with just a few tough days that I attribut more to the conditions than anything else.
The exception being the Upper Madison which just seemed to kind of be off this year. Maybe that high water from the Hebgen Dam malfunction last fall hurt more than we thought it would.
Cooler nights have brought all the water temps down, not thay they were ever very high to begin with, and the fish seem to be more active late morning on into the afternoon.
I just finished a good stint with several repeat clients and had a great time with everyone. It sure makes my job fun when the anglers are having a good time too!

A Humdinger of a Day

I keep thinking its supposed to chill down a bit, but it seems like its hot everyday. We need some cool weather to get the bugs moving mid-day. The weather looks like its going to do that in a couple of days.

The Lower Yellowstone has gotten a wee bit trickier but I think I cracked the code today which included a diving caddis pupa behind a rubberleg.

We've got a huge sale starting this weekend with deals throughout the store. You can shop online as well and take advantage of some great pries. Go to www.finsandfeathersonline.com

Whoa Nelly

It's been a blur the last couple of weeks, months actually, with lots of water, lots of fish, and lots of days on the water. Seems like summer has just arrived, but it's almost over already. We've had some pretty warm weather the last week and a half with little rain, so the rivers are getting a little warm, but not really over 70 so I guess its not too bad anyway.

Fished the Lower today for the first time in a couple of weeks. Weird day, We had a good hooper bite all day and not a tug on a nymph rig. Now that's crazy! The hopper eaters were kind of pecking at the flies with subtle takes, but they were eating them. hings should get very good oever there soon as the cawdaddies are all over the place.

I've had some great clienst over the last couple of weeks and was lucky enough to have some good fishing just about everywhere and a great time everyday. My job is a lot of work, but at the end of the day, its a helluva lot of fun and its the folks in the boat that make my job worth doing.

Ok Kevin, here it is. Good job, big fish, and it was great to see you guys.
There've been some good fish caught around here too.
