Two of my favorite things came together a few weeks back at the Fly Fishing Show in Somerset, NJ - Hatch Reels and the Turneffe Atoll in Belize. Unless you live under a bridge with a Tenkara rod, Hatch reels are highly regarded as the pinnacle of modern-day performance in fly reel design. If you do live under a bridge, one place you should venture is Turneffe Flats Lodge in Belize…take a Hatch reel with you and appreciate them both as much as I do.
This magnificent saltwater fly-fishing paradise has recently come under protection by the Belizean Government thanks to significant organizational, lobbying, and financial efforts by Craig Hayes (owner of Tflats Lodge) and the Turneffe Atoll Trust.  Turneffe has long been a world-renowned saltwater destination and it will continue to be so long into the future thanks to the hard work and financial contributions of the TAT. Learn more about their mission, work, and how to contribute at their website.
Hatch Reels is offering a limited run of 100 Finatic 7+ Reels in an effort to raise funds for TAT. Anodized in in Cool Aqua Blue, this is one of the most unique (and coolest) Hatch Reels I’ve ever come across. I bought one on the spot in Somerset once I learned that Hatch would be donating $250 to TAT for every one of these reels they sell.  Hatch will raise $25,000 for TAT through the sale of these reels and they will sell out quickly. Go to Hatch’s website to get yours while supplies last and feel even better about owning “awesomeness.”
Hatch Reels are made in the USA (southern California) and are hands down the “cream of the crop” when it comes to high performance reels. Their fully sealed drag consists of a series of stacked washers that use a combination of stainless steel and Rulon drag surfaces. Exquisite machining with an eye for functional details that include a one-piece housing construction (the reel foot is machined with the housing rather than being attached separately), matched weight handle and counter-balance, and impossibly tight machined tolerances. The 7+ is the ideal choice for 7-9 weight lines and is equally home with a Permit or Bonefish on the other end.
If a premium saltwater reel is in your near future, we always have several Hatch Reels in the shop. These reels have been in our boats and on our rods for several years now and we are yet to find another reel that is as maintenance free and reliable. Please consider the TAT limited edition reel as your next or first saltwater fly reel and rest assured that both the reel and Turneffe will both continue to be amazing for years to come!
