Fished Ruby to Varney today, fish eating big dries the first mile and then sporadically the rest of the way. Typical upper Madison/Salmonfly day. We ended up throwing streamers for awhile after Macatee and got a couple nice fish to eat and a bunch of chases but that shut off by the time we got to Story. After that, we'd get a fish or two to come up on the banks with willows on them. I would describe the day as beautiful and the fishing as good enough...just a few notches up from disappointing but it was still a long way from being a waste.
Not too crowded and there were lots of bugs out including the big ones, goldens, sallies, caddis, and some PMD's. More big goldens once we got down to Cameron flats.
