Wrapping up the stay at the Secure River lodge here in Bolivia. The stay has been lackluster for the most part as the river has been high and dirty for the most part. We were to fish 3 days here, but only fished 2 as the middle day featured a completely ruined river out our front door. So, save a few hours up a tributary the first day, fishing sucked for our group overall.
Yesterday was my best day and it was atypical overall for fishing here. The river was still high and dirty, like 6" of viz. The typical program here is to cast out and swing/strip through tail outs and pocket water. After the zillionth time, I started fishing right through the skinny riffles along the bank and started to find some fish. The problem was that these were short upstream casts which made it pretty difficult to get tight on the strike, but I at least got lots of explosive strikes. The one nice fish I managed to get was in skinny water with his tail sticking out of the water. It ate HARD.
We head to the other lodge later today and then have 3 more days of fishing. The sun is out today and it hasn't rained in 24 hours…hopefully we will be greeted with cleaner water and hungry fish the rest of the trip.
