Another whirlwind of activity with the quick trip to ICAST in Orlando and back on the river today. Left Bozeman at 1 pm on Tuesday, got to the hotel in Orlando at 2:30 am Wed, went to the show all day, flew out 8 am yesterday.
Quick summary of the ICAST show IMO. The fly fishing part was smaller than years past, but good in that I was able to have quality meetings and time with lots of manufacturers in the fly biz. Product highlights for next year…Orvis, Sage, & Winston all had some great new rods in the $400-$500 price rage made in the US. Bozeman Reel is doing some cool colors for the reels next year and has a great little rod holder for the side of the car. Cheeky reels has a good value reel at $200 for next year and some awesome trout-sized pliers for $89. Rio is bringing out their most popular tapers with Connect Core like used in the Perception line. Orvis is bringing out new price point waders that were featured puckerd for $169 in Mens and Women's. Scott has a new line of SW rods for $500 that were pretty awesome casting in terms of big rods. Lots of energy and new ideas brewing around. Baby double gong's too.
Fished the upper today and had good dry fly fishing on Caddis dries with a pupa dropper (fished dry). Got a few to eat pink hoppers early afternoon. Not crowded where I was and I think it would have fished very well if the wind didn't shift to the west/NW around noon on us. Not a bad day on the upper altogether though.
